Oregon Coast...This was one of the funnest epoxy floor projects we've done in a while. The client chose the colors to be used, but gave us the artistic freedom to do something really unique. We love that! Our clients, the new owners had recently purchased the home overlooking Nehalem Bay in Wheeler, Oregon. The floor itself is a concrete slab on the upstairs, interior of the home. The three individual slabs were seperated by a beam embedded between the areas and acted as a control joint. The floors also had radiant heat. The slabs had originally been stained and sealed, but over the years had deteriorated and were suffering from extensive cracking throughout. The client, the owner of several pets, had concerns that cracks in the slab could trap pet urine and in the end result in a stinky mess.
To solve that potential problem the clients opted to install a seamless epoxy floor, but they wanted it to look cool too. In step Armortech. After grinding this floor to manfacturers specs, we filled the cracks with Elite Cretes MERCAP-445™. A 100% solids, low viscosity, structural epoxy adhesive designed for repairing cracks in concrete that is suitable for both above grade and below grade applications.
After which, we installed two coats of a solid white epoxy base coat and followed up with a decorative metallic epoxy coat consisting of four metallic colors, copper, coffee, brass and charcoal pearl. Once the decorative coat had cured, we sanded and applied a seal coat over the exposed wooden beams. Once cured we then flooded the entire floor including the beams in a single coat of clear E100-VR1™ UV Resistant Epoxy, essentially embedding both the decorative coat and the wooden beams beneath a single, seamless coat of epoxy. VR1 clear epoxy is an excellent protective coating, is 100% solids, UV resistant, low viscosity, clear, high gloss epoxy coating system specifically designed for incidental interior exposure to UV attack. It is not effected by high humidity, is resistant to microbial growth and fungus, and provides exceptional hardness to provide years of service. Once cured, about 8 hours, the Armortech crew applied a final slip-resistant topcoat of AUS-V. AUS-V is a high quality, extremely durable, clear, two component, protective urethane coating for epoxy coatings such as the E100™ Series of epoxies.
In the end everyone won. Our clients got the seamless, and uniquely beautiful floor they wanted. And, we got to have a great time exploring the beautiful, small towns of Wheeler and Nehalem, all while letting loose our creativity. Good times ;)
