Do you have ceramic tiles in your kitchen, bathroom, or commercial facility that are broken, cracked, or that simply look unsightly due to moldy grout, or an old and outdated color scheme.
If you're considering tearing out and replacing your existing ceramic tile, before you do call the ceramic tile refinishing experts at Armortech Resurfacing. Our factory certified professional refinishers are experts in ceramic tile refinishing. In as little as one day, we can breathe new life into those old and outdated ceramic tiles at a fraction of the cost of traditional demolition, tear out, and replacement. The good news is, you do have options.
Option #1: DIY Clean, repair, re-grout, and reseal your existing tile.
If the repairs are minimal and the damage to the existing tiles is not too extensive, this may be your most cost-effective solution. And, the skill set required to complete this task is certainly within the realm of most DIY homeowners, or handymen. But, this option does require that either you have a secret stash of tiles saved from the initial tile installation to use for the repairs, or that the old tiles you have can be easily matched. Which more often than not, is easier said than done. This option also assumes that you can live with the current look and color scheme of the existing tile.
Option #2: Completely tear out and replace your existing ceramic tile.
While this may be an option for some, it may not be for everyone. Tearing out and replacing your existing ceramic tile can be a very costly and time-consuming endeavor. In addition to the actual cost of the replacement tile, there will be demolition, labor and possibly plumbing costs. Not to mention the cost of the dump fees, drywall, grout, caulk and flooring that may also need to be repaired as a result of the tear out. And then there is the time. Even under the best of circumstances, it is not far-fetched to suggest that you could be without a bathroom or kitchen for a week, or even longer while the remodel is under construction and completed.
Option #3: Have your existing ceramic tile professionally refinished by Armortech
Unlike, a traditional remodel, which can require weeks of dirty and dusty construction, permits, and a prolonged intrusion of your personal space. The skilled ceramic tile refinishers at Armortech can make your existing ceramic tile beautiful again, often in as little as one day! And, it can be done without the demolition or the exorbitant costs associated with traditional ceramic tile replacement.
What exactly is ceramic tile refinishing?
Ceramic tile refinishing is a process in which specialized equipment is used to apply a new, durable epoxy surface over an existing ceramic tile surface.
Is refinishing the same as reglazing?
No, tile refinishing is not reglazing. Actually, the term “reglazing” is somewhat of a misnomenclature. When the ceramic tiles on your walls, or countertop where originally “fired” it was done in a kiln heated to very high temperatures, somewhere in the vicinity of 900-2500 degrees Fahrenheit. For obvious reasons, recreating that environment in the confines of a residential or even commercial kitchen, or bathroom would not be safe, or practical.
Can you explain the tile refinishing process?
Sure. The first thing our technician will do is inspect the tile wall and confirm that it is sound, has no softness, or wetness issues; such as crumbling drywall, or backer board and that the tile in question is a good candidate for refinishing. Next, the tile will receive a thorough and vigorous cleaning to remove dirt, oils, grease and any soap residue. After which our technicians will repair or replace any broken, loose, chipped, or damaged tiles. In most cases, the existing grout will also need some attention. So, our technicians will expertly fill in any missing or damaged grout lines and apply a thin, new coat to ensure the grout lines are filled and even. Re-grouting and patching any small pinholes in the grout results in a clean, well done final finish.
Once complete, the tile is acid etched, cleaned again, and an appropriate primer and bonding agent are applied to aid in adhesion of the new top coat. Finally, a new solid color, imitation stone, or granite finish of your choice is applied, sealing the grout lines permanently with a uniform, water-tight coating and making cleaning in the future a much easier and less demanding task. And best of all, the entire process can typically be accomplished in only one or two days, and at a cost savings of 50-80% versus the cost of traditional ceramic tile replacement methods.
Refinishing your existing ceramic tile will save you both time & money compared to the cost replacement.
